When working with a client to construct an Estate Plan, it is imperative that all aspects be considered before developing the plan. Many individuals consider Estate Planning to be something which should be put in place when you get “older.” I remind those individuals who have children that it is imperative to you have documents which name their caretaker — and who is to manage the funds for them.
Legally, children become adults at age 18 in Idaho and most states. However, if we state that funds are to be managed to the age of 24, then perhaps we avoid the age when peer pressure is the greatest.
About Shirley Bade
I’ve been practicing law for more than 20 years, and am licensed to practice in the State of Idaho, but have also been licensed in Montana, Oregon, and Washington. In addition, I have been a Certified Public Accountant for more than forty years, and currently licensed in the State of Idaho, but have been licensed in Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
I served as a Financial Advisor for Shearson American Express, which gives me a background in stocks, bonds, annuities, and other financial instruments, along with experience in tax issues, whether income or estate taxes.
I am a graduate of the University of Idaho, College of Law. My undergraduate degree is from the University of Montana where I earned three degrees: Management, Business Education, and Education.
I have previously been employed by the Internal Revenue Service as an Auditor. The IRS required more than three months of training before being “on the job.” This training’s entire focus was on the IRS Code, IRS Regulations, and the Court Cases associate with the Code sections themselves. This training provided understanding of the Code as well as Court Cases that interpreted the Code.
